Social Media’s PR Punch
It’s difficult to understate the impact of new media on the practice of public relations. We’ve gone from a handful of communication tools to what seems like handfuls of tools for every person on the planet. With social network participation in the hundreds of millions, public relations practitioners have been pulled into the digital age, if only to keep up with the times.
Although the tools have changed, the foundations of strategic public relations remain intact. In fact, there’s an even greater need for public relations pros to set clear objectives and outline measurement criteria for their work.
Whether we like it or not, social media has set PR on its ear, and we’re the recipients of a set of challenges and opportunities never before presented to public relations professionals. Although it may feel like PR has received a punch in the gut, there are now many more ways the influence of good PR can punch up the bottom line for companies and organizations alike.
During his remarks, digital and Accredited public relations pro, Pete Codella, will discuss the current state of PR and share examples of both failure and success in the new media world.
